ADHD can affect more than focus. It may impact school performance, friendships, self-esteem, sleep, behavior, motivation, and family stress. Our goal is to help families better understand what is going on and create a treatment plan that supports the whole child.

What is ADHD?

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, impulse control, activity level, organization, and emotional regulation. ADHD symptoms may look different from child to child. Some children are constantly moving, while others may appear quiet, distracted, forgetful, or overwhelmed.

Common ADHD symptoms may include:

  • Difficulty staying focused

  • Forgetfulness or losing items

  • Trouble completing schoolwork

  • Impulsivity or interrupting

  • Emotional outbursts

  • Difficulty following multi-step directions

  • Restlessness or excessive talking

  • Poor organization or time management

  • School avoidance or low confidence

The CDC estimates that about 7 million U.S. children ages 3–17 have been diagnosed with ADHD.

Pediatric ADHD Evaluations

Aurora Integrative Care offers pediatric ADHD evaluations in Olympia, WA for children and teens who may be struggling with attention, behavior, learning, or emotional regulation.

An ADHD evaluation may include:

  • Parent and child interview

  • Review of symptoms at home and school

  • Vanderbilt or other rating scales

  • Review of school concerns

  • Screening for anxiety, depression, sleep problems, trauma, and other conditions

  • Medication and treatment history review

  • Collaborative treatment planning

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends evaluating children and adolescents ages 4–18 for ADHD when symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity are present and causing impairment.

ADHD Treatment for Children and Teens

Treatment is individualized based on age, symptoms, medical history, family preferences, and school needs. ADHD treatment may include:

  • Parent education

  • School support and accommodations

  • Behavioral strategies

  • Executive functioning support

  • Therapy referrals when appropriate

  • ADHD medication management when clinically appropriate

For younger children, parent training in behavior management is recommended before medication when possible. For school-age children and teens, treatment often includes a combination of behavioral support, school interventions, and medication when appropriate.

Medication Management for ADHD

When ADHD medication is appropriate, we discuss options carefully with families, including expected benefits, possible side effects, safety considerations, monitoring, and follow-up.

Medication decisions are made collaboratively and may include stimulant or non-stimulant options depending on the child’s needs. ADHD medications can help reduce symptoms of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity and improve functioning for many children.

Whole-Child ADHD Care

At Aurora Integrative Care, we look beyond the diagnosis. ADHD often overlaps with anxiety, depression, sleep problems, learning challenges, trauma, sensory concerns, and family stress. We take time to understand the full picture so treatment is practical, supportive, and personalized.

Our approach is:

Compassionate. Collaborative. Evidence-based. Family-centered.
